The Science
Lemon water on an empty stomach: (1) Hydration after overnight dehydration (best benefit). (2) Citrate in lemons binds calcium oxalate → may reduce kidney stone risk. (3) Vitamin C (18mg/half lemon — 20% DV). (4) Small amount of potassium. NOT proven: "alkalizing the body" (your lungs and kidneys regulate pH tightly — lemon water doesn't change blood pH), "detox" (liver detoxes, not lemon water), "boosting metabolism" (negligible effect). The ritual itself has value — morning hydration habit. Just don't expect miracles.
Acidic — rinse mouth or use straw (protect tooth enamel). Not a replacement for breakfast. If you have citrus allergy or severe GERD, skip.
