The Science
Beans are high in fiber (27% DV per 100g) and contain fermentable carbohydrates (including oligosaccharides) that can trigger gas, bloating, and abdominal pain in many IBS patients, especially those with IBS-C or mixed types. However, the fiber is mostly insoluble (in pod) and may help some with constipation-predominant IBS, but the sugar content (18% DV) and high carbohydrate load could worsen symptoms in others, particularly those with fructose or FODMAP sensitivities.
Recommendation
Introduce small portions (e.g., 1/4 cup) cooked and well-rinsed, and monitor individual tolerance; consider soaking and discarding water to reduce FODMAPs.
